Musician
Paul Ndlovu (1954–1986) was a South African singer, songwriter, and performer revered as the pioneer of Tsonga Disco. Originating from Lulekani in Limpopo, Ndlovu began his musical career in the late 1970s with The Big Cats before performing with The Cannibals and The Street Kids. He launched his solo career in the mid-1980s under RPM and Gallo Record Company.
Partnering with producer Peter Moticoe, Ndlovu fused electronic synth-pop arrangements with Xitsonga vocals and traditional melodic structures. His 1985 single “Khombo Ra Mina” achieved Gold status, establishing a blueprint for regional electronic pop alongside subsequent hits such as “Hita Famba Moyeni” and “Cool Me Down”. Before he died in 1986, Ndlovu established a lasting legacy in Southern African dance music, with his composition catalogue administered through Gallo Music Publishers.
