Pierre de Charmoy is a highly successful and influential South African singer-songwriter best known for his string of chart-topping hits in the Adult Contemporary genre during the 1980s and 1990s.

A dominant figure on the local music scene, his signature track, “Live On” (1983), became one of the country’s most enduring radio anthems. Other major hits that defined his career include “Reaching Out,” “You’re My Lady,” and “Don’t Girls Get Lonely.” His albums, such as Ovation and Emotions, were commercial successes distributed by RPM Records.

De Charmoy’s popularity was underscored by multiple industry accolades:

  • He won the prestigious South African SARIE Award for Best Male Singer for three consecutive years (1983, 1984, and 1985).

  • He also won the Scotty 3M Best Album Award (Album of the Year) in both 1986 and 1987.

In addition to his recording career, De Charmoy performed at the historic 1985 Concert in the Park and spent time as a television presenter and actor. Today, while primarily focused on managing his sugar farm in KwaZulu-Natal, he continues to embrace his passion, maintaining his own studio and performing live shows, ensuring his classic sound remains part of the South African musical landscape.
