Die Briels
Die Briels
Musician/band
The Briels were an Afrikaans singing group. Frans and Sannie Briel recorded their first album, My Gray Old Mother, on 24 August 1954. Later they were known for songs such as Three white boxes, Train to Pretoria, In Memory of 435 Miners, and Mynerslied. Their songs were deliberately somber and sentimental and were considered an embarrassment by the FAK at the time. A SAUC letter from 6 August 1957 shows that two of their songs, Saans dör die tralies and Engel in die hemel, were banned from radio.
