“Yakahl’Inkomo” by Winston Mankunku Ngozi Quartet is a legendary recording released in 1968, arguably the defining moment for South African Jazz. The Zulu language title translates to “the bull’s bellow”. Allaboutjazz.Com named it “a masterpiece at 50 years” one of the most celebrated jazz recordings from South Africa. Coincidentally, Umlazi born Electronic Beats genius Muzi (already a huge Gallo Records fanatic) stumbled on the original song and fell in love with the craftsmanship and structure. Muzi took a dive into sampling which is very rare for his style, the resulting work delivers a dynamically funky transformation of the original, for the ears of the global beats generation and hip-hop/jazz sample fans.
Gallo Remixed pays homage to the originators through remixing, remaking, sampling, and curating the iconic Gallo original masters and compositions.
