Press Release: Gallo Remixed, Ami Faku & Black Coffee Honour South African Music Legends Letta Mbulu And Caiphus Semenya With Their Remix/Remake Single, “There’s Music In The Air”
Johannesburg, Friday, 9 September 2022 – Multiple award-winning music powerhouses Black Coffee and Ami Faku collaborate with Gallo Remixed to get lost in the melody of legacy with an Afropop remix of “There’s Music In The Air”.
Originally performed, recorded, written, and produced in 1976 by Letta Mbulu and Caiphus Semenya respectively, one of the staple anti-apartheid songs is reborn into the nuanced pursuit of unattained freedoms accentuated through an invigorating electronic soul remix/remake as part of the Gallo Remixed Series executively produced by Black Coffee.
Honing into the original composition’s medium for hope, feelings of love, hope and solace, and a zeitgeist message of freedom, Ami Faku bellows passionate vocal textures, soothing harmonies, and piercing tonal registers on the Black Coffee and DJ Kenza’s Co-Production
“This song symbolises the gift of music, the musical lineage, and creativity of this generation can be traced to the genius of the original creators that carried the South African sound globally over many decades since the 60s,” shares artist/producer Black Coffee.
Sharing a mutual admiration and respect for the aforementioned music icons who were a catalyst in the dismantlement of Apartheid in South Africa, “There’s Music In The Air” harnesses the pivotal spirit of its original composition to immortalise South Africa’s milestone growing influence on the global music culture.
